Our Story

Our founder, Steve Hughes’s story is quite a fascinating one! Initially, he pursued a career in professional football, starting out as an apprentice at Brentford FC in 2000 as a 16-year-old, turning professional in 2002. However, a change in management led him to non-league football in 2005, playing for notable clubs including Maidenhead United and Wealdstone – where his football career was unfortunately cut short by a serious knee injury...

Following his retirement from football, Steve delved into sales, gaining valuable experience in the corporate recruitment industry working as a recruitment consultant for Hays plc and having a successful period in the health and fitness industry as a personal trainer. However, his roots in the cleaning industry beckoned. His father, Michael Hughes, established Wycombe Cleaning Services in 1984 (later rebranded to Wyclean Group), the same year Steve was born – which is where Steve was to begin his next chapter, plying his trade cleaning windows up and down the country and successfully leading the specialist window cleaning team at Wyclean Group.

After honing his skills in specialist cleaning and management, Steve embarked on his own entrepreneurial journey, founding Ryemead in 2012 initially as a Sole Trader before incorporating the company as Ryemead Commercial Cleaning Limited in 2013. In fact, the name Ryemead originates from the road name where Steve bought his first flat in High Wycombe – Ryemead Way! Driven by a desire to shake up the window cleaning industry, Steve set out to make Ryemead a premier provider of commercial window cleaning and support services. Through dedication and unwavering commitment, Ryemead has achieved significant milestones, won numerous industry awards, and fostered strong partnerships with like-minded organisations that share our core values along the way.

Away from work, Steve is married to Hayley and is Dad to his 2 beautiful girls, Isabelle and Holly.
